An Interesting place in Nanjing, Lotus Ponds
An Interesting place in Nanjing, Lotus Ponds
I would like to talk about Lotus Ponds, a tourist site about 200 kilometers to the northeast of Nanjing. As its very name suggests, this place is famous for lotus flowers. This tourist site is not far away from Nanjing and when I made my travel plans, I did think about going there. Sometimes i drove my car and visited this place with my family. According to the travelogue on line, the main attraction of this tourist site is the lotus flowers growing densely together in several adjoining large lakes. Tourists would take a tiny and slender boat to travel on the lake. The boat would only seat two people who would sit in it face to face. Then they would have to use their hands to part away the lotus leaves to allow this minuscule boat to go through. It is great fun for families with children. Chinese people have long had a love affair with lotus flower for lotus is believed to be a symbol of moral integrity and uprightness. The plant lotus grows out of a dark and muddy bottom of a pond or a lake, and yet the flower emerges out of water pure and beautiful, untainted by the mud. Therefore, when lotus flower is in bloom, people who know about this place may go there to appreciate the delicate beauty of the flower. People who have been there reported smelling the fragrance of the lotus leaves in the air and being mesmerized by the sheer scale of the lotus lake which stretch several hundred meters. They are also impressed by the local delicacies the restaurants offer, such as the lotus seeds and river crabs. Although listed as a four A tourist site, making it on a par with other places of interest in large cities, this place is relatively little known for several reasons. First, it is a standalone tourist site.
Chinese people like booking their travel with travel agencies which would organize a bus tour group allowing tourists to see several attractions for like three days or four days, but this place is far away from many other tourist sites, making it difficult to be incorporated into an itinerary. Second, this place is not easily accessible by train or expressway. Its remote location discourages the most fervent admirers of lotus flower.
