The Shape of Water
Elisa Esposito, who as an orphaned child, was found in a river with wounds on her neck, is mute, and communicates through sign language. She lives alone in an apartment above a cinema, and works as a cleaning-woman at a secret government laboratory in Baltimore at the height of the Cold War. Her friends are her closeted next-door neighbor Giles, a struggling advertising illustrator who shares a strong bond with her, and her co-worker Zelda, a woman who also serves as her interpreter at work. The facility receives a mysterious creature captured by Colonel Richard Strickland,  in charge of the project to study it. Curious about the creature, Elisa discovers it is a humanoid amphibian. She begins visiting him in secret, and the two form a close relation. When Elisa learns of the Americans' appalling plans for the creature, she persuades Giles to help her free him. Mosenkov discovers Elisa's plot and chooses to help her. It is successful. Elisa keeps the creature in her bathtub, adding salt to the water to keep him alive. As part of his efforts to recover the creature, Strickland interrogates Elisa and Zelda, but the failure of his advances toward Elisa hampers his judgment, and he dismisses them. Elisa and the creature soon falls in love, having sex in her bathroom. During the escape from Strickland, they jump into the water. When he applies his healing touch to the scars on her neck, she starts to breathe through gills. In a closing voiceover narration, Giles conveys his belief that Elisa lived "happily ever after" with the creature.
The heroine is lonely. When she sees the  humanoid amphibian who can't speak and whose neck is locked by iron chain, she doesn't feel he is strange but see the similarities between them. She boils eggs for him, teaches him sign languages, listens music with him and eats lunch with him. Only is she sees him, she tends to dance with a mob every time.  It seems that she brings happiness to him, but in reality, she comforts herself. Letting one like her happy resembles a process of pleasing herself. Before encountering him, she lives a very routine and rigorous life. She only  wears black leather shoes. But after meeting him, she begins to do something crazy. For example, she blocks the bathroom with towels and opens the tap water to spread the bathroom, leaking to the upstair theater. She wears the red shoes. She will try her best to plot the rescure plan. So sometimes we are inclined to do crazy things for someone who deserves our love. The movie reminds me of me and my boyfriend. He is a soldier and I am a college student. We barely meet  during a year. But due to the love, we all do some crazy things. Even others doubt about the long-distance relationship, we still support each other. So try to love someone no matter it will fail or not.
