Linhai—a noted historic and cultural city in Zhejiang Province
Speaking of Zhejiang Province, what occurs to people first might be its capital city—Hangzhou, which is famous for its West Lake and picturesque scenery around it. Actually, there are many other cities famous for their beautiful landscape or cultural relics in Zhejiang Province. Today, I am going to introduce a city in eastern Zhejiang Province, that is, Linhai.
Linhai is a prefecture-level city in Zhejiang, with rich cultural heritage and natural landscape, and is known for “culture of the state” in history and one of the livable cities in China nowadays. Ziyang Street, an epitome of the millennium city and with a total length of 1,080 meters from the north to the south end, is a famous tourist attraction in Linhai. As the first ancient street in Linhai, it is the symbol of this famous city. Wells are a great feature in Ziyang Street, for most wells have been there for centuries and the water inside wells is really limpid and clear. Being cool in summer and warm in winter, the water in the wells has been a necessity in daily lives for residents. At the south end of Ziyang Street resides a temple called Longxing Temple, which is the best-known temple in Linhai. Words had been said that Jianzhen, a famous monk in Tang Dynasty, once preached in Longxing Temple during his Japanese trip, as a result, this temple has been an important place for the exchanges of Buddhist culture between China and Japan.
